Sg7 looked like it was gonna be a blast. The guest list looked good and we were looking forward to it.

We arrived at around 5pm on Friday and met friends almost instantly. We spent a nice couple of hours chatting to friends and catching up on what had been going on. Then we queued for the convention hall. I volunteer as a steward so get to sit in the first few rows but My kids can’t so they sit with friends and the earlier in the queue the better the seat. They give us a raffle ticket after a while and we can go away. Then they call ticket numbers and you can go in the hall in order. Virtual Queuing they call it. At least it meant we could go to MacDonalds for breakfast.

Once in the hall and settled at our table our friends all around us we watched the opening ceremony.

We are introduced to all the guests. Then they all circulate in the hall and talk to each table. They are charming people and are all so sweet. Alex Zehara for instance, not one of the biggest named actors to folks who don’t know Stargate but a very skilled and charming guy and the sort that keeps these shows running.

He asks us all our names and where we come from. There are 600 people he has to meet and he talks to each of us. We come from Woking we say… So do I says he, Woking in Canada, and we chat for a few minutes on the differences.

Anyway about midnight we leave to drive home. Everyone else stays in the hotel but I decided we couldn’t afford it.

We were back the next day at 7 am to get our raffle tickets to get in the door. Then we went off to MacDonalds for breakfast.

More friends to chat with before we go into the hall for the talks. Each guest talks for about an hour both days. They are great entertainers and answer questions. Many jumping down off the stage and coming to chat to folks at the back of the room or who they recognise for previous cons or from last night.

It is amazing how many of us they remember and greet like old friends. During the day the celebs who are not on stage are in photograph sessions with people who buy tickets.

Once again dosh was a bit short so we could only afford to have one pic taken. My daughter with Teryl. She was so sweet but my daughter is 5ft 8 in and she sort of looked so huge next to Teryl.

She was pretty chuffed when Teryl told her she looked very pretty. I tell her a dozen times a day, but does she believe me, NO. Teryl tells her and she believes it, I ask you, Kids!

After the days talks we all queue up in ticket number order for autographs with the guests and have a little chat.

All the time we are with friends. My kids queued on the Saturday. I was going to wait for the Sunday because the steward pics were going to be available on Sunday morning, There is a whole lotta laughing going on.

In the evening we had a fancy dress competition and Ronnie Cox, performed with his band for us. It was great, but I was sort of tired so didn’t really appreciate it as much as I should.

The kids wanted to stay later and party but I worried about driving home if I got too tired so at about midnight we went home.

Next day followed the same routine. This time during one of the sessions I sort of got noticed. There I sit in the second row. The day before I had been in the front and decided it was way too near any celebs that might jump down and come and chat to folks.

So there I am sitting enjoying the wonderful Teryl Rothey. She was just in front of me and was answering a question from someone when.. horror or horrors I hear a phone going off.. and worst of all it was coming from my bag.

Teryl honed on it like a shark on an open wound. By the time I had got the phone out of the bag to switch it off she had said, “ hang on honey “(to the person she was answering) “We have a phone call down here” and there she was right in front of me and with her hand out for my phone.

Muttering something about how I thought it was off, I barely had time to see it was from home and press answer before I sort of gave it to Teryl.

“Hello “ she said “this Is Teryl Rothery.”

Hubby said something.

“he said “Ohh it’s you””…She told us... laughing.

The conversation went on from there…. Hard to remember the details because I was gradually going redder and redder and somewhat distracted.

She asked who he was, commenting on him being my husband and asking what he wanted.

He asked her to give me a message. Eventually she tells him “Your Wife’s face is as red as the strap round her neck” (with my security badges on) and then she laughs “he says at least I would know how to treat her.”

Well folks seemed to find it all very funny. She tells him he should be there and they could do a double act. Eventually it ends and she gives me back the phone. I sort of forget what happened next but she went back to question and answer session. Lots of laughs etc,

Turns out it was all caught on camera and whole room could see my face the colour of beetroot.

It took a while to calm down. Believe it or not I am a shy person and it was sort of exciting in a horrifying way.

After the session I phoned Chris and found out what he wanted, to tell Connie to phone grandma and thank her for her birthday present- and to see his reaction. He was a gob smacked as me.

For a while he had thought it might be Connie pretending but the sound of the laughing etc convinced him that it was indeed her.

I was relieved it was Teryl, any of the other guests and he would have said who are you… and what are you doing with my wife’s phone.

During the Autograph session she asked me what he thought etc and signed a photo for him…. She is one funny, sweet adorable lady.

Although I was embassied I was also delighted. Since them folks have been sending me pics, and I sort of am known as the phone call lady….. whoops.

After the main events were over we had a party on the Sunday evening and a great paper fight.

Not quite as good as the SG6 paper fight, not the right kind of ammunition (newspaper is not as good) and not as many people.

We left around 11:30 pm. The kids had school the next day but they were well miffed that we had to go.

We all had a great time and are looking forward a lot to the next one. Next time we will stay in the hotel.

The driving late at night and early morning is just too tiring along with everything else we do at a convention. Sg7 has to rate as the best we have been to so far….

Bring on SG8.
